Chivito literally translates to 'baby goat'...and this sandwhich isnt
far from it. This massive sandwich from Uruguay is packed with a bbqed
filet mignon of beef, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, olives, beets,
hot peppers, pickles, sliced ham, onions, mayo on burger buns.

Made it to Brazil!
After a 12 hour bus ride from Montevideo...I have made it to
Brazil. No more spanish and the the roles have reversed between Julie and me. I can speak more easily now with portuguese and Julie is already having some
difficulty understanding the portuguese here. The amount of doce de
leite ("sweet milk"...like a butterscotch treat) in Buenos Aires and
Montevideo was impressive. I love doce de leite...but I have never had
so much of it in my life. Breakfast, doce de leite is like the butter
you put on your bread. Then there are the Alfaros...these are dark
chocolate and white chocolate biscuits filled with doce de leite.
Every ice cream shop has a whole section devoted to doce de leite.
There's Doce de leite granado (with pieces of chocolate), Super Doce
de leite (ice cream with more doce de leite on top)...and some 3 other
types of ice cream all under the heading of doce de leite. Oh and lets
not forget empanadas...these are the equivalent of meat patties. These
are real popular, you can put in cheese and ham, tomato sauce and
meat, just straight beef...clearly you can put whatever you want
inside an empanada...so much so that i had an empanada with, none
other than doce de leite, nuts and nutella.
I dont think doce the leite is popular to such an extent here in
Brazil....Doce de leite...you will be missed.

In Buenos Aires we were staying with Julie´s grandmother in Buenos

highly recommended that I visit the place I was
born....hmmm...coincidence? maybe not. Either way...its a good
sign....ill be in the town where I was
born around mid june!
Cheers,
Philippe

Made it to Buenos Aires. Right now, Julie and I are staying with her
grandmother. I´m desperately attempting to catch on to the
Spanish...having a lot more difficulty than I anticipated! When people
start throwing in the slang, i´m lost! Anyways, we went out walking
downtown in the Capital. I´ll put up some pictures tomorrow.
Definitely had to put vegetarianism on hold....there is meat in every
corner imaginable over here! Monday, we´ll be heading out to
Montevideo....still looking for place..if anyone has any ideas, let us
know!
